How Long Have You Been With PRC?

Joined PRC in April 2021 as part of the Learn to Run (LTR) Program

What Made You Start Running?

I moved to Mount Pearl and wanted to become more active and meet people in the area.  A friend of mine, also a member at the time had been encouraging me for a while to start running.  She knew I never ran before so when the Spring LTR registration was posted she reached out to me and I took that leap of faith and did something completely out of my comfort zone and I haven't looked back

What is your best/worst run?

I don't know if I have one run that stands out as my worst run.  I've had a lot of runs where I’ve been in my head questioning why I was running but the joy of getting across that finish line or running with a great community has far out-weighed those moments. Last year I completed a couple of 5K races in under 30 minutes.  I was extremely proud that I achieved those goals.

I’ve had lots of races I’ve enjoyed and have travelled out of province to do two half marathons but my best run is still probably the Turkey Tea 10k in October 2020.  When I joined PRC I had only wanted to run 5K, nothing more, but I got caught up in the hype.  That was my longest distance up to that point.  I was doing 10 and 1s up until that race but on that day I felt good and went for it.  The best feeling was turning into Park Place and watching the look on the faces of fellow PCRers  (you know who you are) as I was approaching the finish line much, much quicker than anyone had thought.  It was the closest to the runners high that

Favorite running shoe?

In the beginning I had one pair of running shoes.  I don’t really have a favourite pair.  I quickly learned one was not enough and regularly rotate through a few now.  My everyday ones are Asics Gel-Nibmus.  I just started wearing those last year and really like the feel.  I have Nike Pegasus and Saucony Axon more for road running; Asics Magic Speed for races and just recently added in a pair of Saucony Kinkaras.

How do you track your runs?

I track my runs with my Garmin Forerunner 245.  It pushes the data to a few apps that I use (Garmin Connect, Strava and Final Surge).

Do you have a current running goal?

My running goals have progressed since I’ve joined PRC. From just wanting to learn to run, to completing a 5K, then a half marathon and Cape to Cabot (20k).  For those that have gotten to know me, they can attest that I swore I would never do a full marathon.  That didn’t last, this year’s goal is to complete a full marathon in October and I am hoping that when I do I’ll be able to add it to my best run ever list!

Best training tip you can provide/received?

Stay out of my head – enjoy the process.  Stay consistent; follow-the plan and know that every run and workout, no matter the length helps you get to your goal.
